Bevy of beauties.

Bevy of beauties.

I’m so excited, the pageant season is back up & running yet again! The contestants for Miss Jamaica Universe have just been announced and here’s a snapshot of the group.
I am rooting for the 1 nearest to the left, hey she hails from my Alma Mater (we went to the same high school) so she has my vote.
There are more I know but they’re hard to pick out in this group picture. I’ll choose my other faves as I get to know the rest.
Official photos have yet to been released.

There are 10 million and 1 reasons to love being Jamaican, but then there are another 10 million to want to run away elsewhere.

Despite any negatives feelings I may have from time to time, in the end I LOVE being Jamaican and I’d be nothing without my family roots here! So I understand why so many people love coming here, or any Caribbean country overall, and enjoy taking part in our culture. Hell, tourism is one of our biggest source of revenue so I welcome you one and all. Take a visit! Want some tips? I am a few keystrokes away!

Better yet, if you want tips in speaking Jamaican Patois, I’m here. Damn, if yall want me to speak in creole, I’d do it too. Who wants a whole post just in creole? Haha that would be a blast!

I love being Jamaican but I hate the stereotypes associated with our people. So please don’t be an ass because you would HATE to see a real Jamaican pop off on you!

[Disclaimer: I am not mad or annoyed, so do not take it that way. Just some friendly advice.]

1) DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT!, ASSUME EVERY JAMAICAN SMOKES WEED... Damn, I am not bashing the epicness that is marijuana but you would be stereotyping to believe that. This really gets to some people, so please do not do it.

FYI, smoking marijuana is illegal here and yes, the law is enforced. So if you do get to puff up when you come here, watch your back 🙂

2) WE DO NOT WORSHIP OR LISTEN TO BOB MARLEY 24/7… Jamaicans listen to all genres of music and there are many other reggae and dancehall artistes that get our recognition. Also, don’t ask if we know Bob Marley, he’s dead for heaven-sake.

I find it hilarious when I’m in the States and people ask me to finish off a line of a Bob Marley song and I am blank. They are so disappointed. *LOL*

3) WE DO NOT LIVE IN HUTS, BOARD SHACKS OR JUMP ALONG TREES LIKE WILD ANIMALS. I actually find this one the most ignorant, it’s 20-frikkin-12, realize that we own houses. Yes, poverty is real so some people may live in shacks but damnit we are not monkeys!

4) WE DO NOT ALL HAVE DREADLOCKS OR ARE RASTAFARIANS. This is self-explanatory. Jamaica’s motto is ‘Out of Many: One People’ we have people of all ethnicity and religions here,
Hell, I grew up in a Christian home with not one rasta in my family. Check yo’self!

5) WE DO NOT ALL SAY ‘WAH GWAAN’ OR ‘MON’. Matter of fact, no one says ‘mon.’
Story: I had to be back in Jamaica for new years eve 2011 because there’s nowhere else to party right into the new year like Jamaica. When my flight landed in the beautiful city of Montego Bay, all the tourists decided to take off their winter weather, wear their undershirts and sunglasses and start screaming ‘Yeah mon!’ on the plane.
I COULD NOT BELIEVE IT! Every single REAL Jamaican on that plane had an immediate screw face like holy shit, we do not do this!

6) EVERY JAMAICAN IS NOT RELATED. EVERY JAMAICAN IS NOT BLACK.There are actually millions of people living here, you may have met a Jamaican named Tom Jones sometime ago but I for one have no idea who the hell he is.

7) WE HAVE CITIES, TOWNS, ETC. Jamaica is not one big beach, we do have roads and established urban areas. We have one of the best nightlife scenes in the world, of course we have cities.

8) EVERY JAMAICAN IS NOT HOMOPHOBIC. I HATE to see people hating my country so please stop generalising. You have homophobes everywhere. I am certainly open to gays and lesbians, and have some as friends. I judge my friends based on their personality, mindset and their ability to just have a good time.

9) ALL JAMAICANS DO NOT BLEACH. Now if you have not heard this or have no knowledge on Vybz Kartel and his bleaching, then disregard this point. I just had to get this one out there, we do not all bleach our skin. Actually only a minority of people do this and it is not exactly a Jamaican thing, it’s a ‘black’ people thing so just get this assumption out of your mind.

This is really just all I could think of readily. Comment any more if you so desire.
So toss these assumptions out the door, come to Jamaica and let’s have a great time! 🙂 #ProudJamaican.

I completely never saw myself as a blogger, and to be honest I was on the verge of deleting this site last night. I mean, I just needed a way to vent my issues. However, I decided to give this another shot and write another post.
I have views, frustrations and stories on almost every topic, I mean I do live a VERY eventful life. Comment and give me a topic, I’m sure to give an hilarious story.

[Disclaimer: I do live in the Caribbean, though I do frequent USA and Canada, so my stories are a reflection of our society and I’ll do my best to explain any slangs I may use]

So I want to share with you guys my newest project. I am really tired of waiting on an attractive guy to ‘step to me’ so I decided that from now on, I will try my best to make the first move. After all I am not shy, it will not take much out of me to introduce myself. Now do not think I am boy-crazy, definitely not. My career and achieving my goals are my first priority but hey a lil love-a-dub-dub would not hurt  🙂

Recently, I found myself spending a Saturday night out at one of the clubs with friends, just drinking some Patron shots and having a good time. We decided to leave before the club ended, because who really wants to be caught in traffic with drunken drivers anyway? Recipe for mayhem & a broken tail light. As I approached the exit door, I was blinded by the glow of something right by the door, no not the bright red EXIT light! The gorgeous human being standing right next to it.

He was attractive, no doubt, and better yet he was staring right at me. So I immediately thought, now is the perfect time to get started on this ‘Operation:Grow Some Balls’ plan. I introduced myself to him, and praises be to whichever God you believe in, he told me was hoping I would come over to him.

We conversed for a bit, I got his number and left feeling accomplished that I at least was able to execute my project. I have his number stored but i’m yet to make the next step. Because…
Should I be the one making all the moves? In this ‘go-getter’ world, how much should you go and get?

I attached this picture because the words are really thought provoking. It’s never too late to re-evaluate your life. How much are YOU willing to go for what you want?

Nope, none. Not D-Wade, not Bron Bron. Nobody:

Blessed to be an Island Girl

Reminiscing on my last birthday because I’m so stoked for the next one! After all, I am reaching a new milestone in my life at this ‘earthstrong’ <- that's a Jamaican term for you guys 🙂

Now I am totally new to wordpress and blogging overall but I just needed a new forum to discuss and release all my thoughts, aside from within my mind so I feel less like a crazy person. Hopefully, as my fingers flow over these keys, I’ll find myself becoming mentally at ease. You see what I did there? Rhyming. *giggles*
The source of my distress right now is relationships. One of the biggest roller coasters of life.
I have been single now for as long as the dinosaurs have been extinct. Believe it or not, my last boyfriend and I survived the Ice Age together and said toodles to our dino pets. All jokes aside though, it really has been awhile. However, I must say despite any hurt I may have received from that relationship, it really was a learning experience [cliche I know] but I truly learnt a lot about myself. I discovered issues I had and definitely worked on them.
Now with my new and improved self, I feel ready to date again. I mean I am at least a decently attractive person in the face with a nice body, my personality is dealable with and I’m fun to be around. So what’s the problem?
I have now realised my worth, after increasing my value once working on my issues, and refused to settle for less than I deserve. Now I am not being narcissistic at all, I am really a humble chick, but I find that I do have certain things I am looking for and I will not dip below that level I have set.
So you may be thinking, this girl is too hard to please or something of the sort but this is not true either. I just want a guy who’s a gentleMAN, not a childish boy in a man’s body. If I wanted to deal with a child, I would have one. Now I am not expecting him to open my car door either, I have accepted that chivalry is dying, but certain traits should not vanish either. I just want a guy who will truly love me, treat me right, give as much as he’ll get from me, be honest, be loyal, respect me and be monogamous! I find this list to be basic as this is how a relationship should be, but damn I hang with a lot of guys because I’m that ‘chill’ kind of chick and they ‘dog’ a lot of girls.

I am starting to feel like I’m stuck in the wrong decade and with this generation, to find a guy who has the basic criteria down is like well, finding a needle in haystack. Am I expecting too much? Should I just be okay with my guy having many side chicks but coming back to me at night?
